Women's Basketball Falls At No. 19 Stritch

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Roosevelt women's basketball team finished its game strong against 19th-ranked Cardinal Stritch on Tuesday with 55 percent shooting, but a rough start for the Green and White kept the host Wolves in the driver's seat for a 60-43 decision over the Lakers on Tuesday.

Paige Gallimore and Becca Bergman had 11 points apiece for the Lakers (3-2, 2-1 CCAC), who made just 5-of-25 shots in the first two quarters, including a six-point second stanza, while the Wolves (7-2, 3-0 CCAC) connected on 50 percent from the floor in the opening quarter to eventually build a 33-18 halftime lead.

Kelli Schrauth led all scorers with 30 points for Stritch, as she made 14-of-24 from the field.

The Wolves pulled 23 of their 31 rebounds off of the offensive glass and scored 42 points in the paint while the Lakers couldn't get going offensively until the final period.

"For the most part, I am proud of our fight as a team," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said after the game. "We are young, so we have to begin to realize that it takes 40 minutes without taking possessions off to beat really good team.

"We will continue to work hard and improve day after day."

Roosevelt will look to bounce back when it hosts Alma College (Mich.) on Sunday at 1 p.m. inside the Goodman Center.
