PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Roosevelt women's soccer team took eight shots on target against host Trinity Christian, but the Lakers were unable to bag goals out of those opportunities and the Trolls scored early in both periods to take a 3-0 decision on Saturday afternoon.
Rookie Monica Munoz unleashed a team-high three shots while second-year goalkeeper Maria Narcisi made seven saves to keep the Lakers (4-4-0, 1-2-0 CCAC) in the match.
Trinity Christian (7-2-0, 2-1-0 CCAC) took an early lead just three ticks after the four-minute mark as Kayla Diemer scored after connecting with Jessica Bianchi.
Thanks to five first-half saves from Narcisi, the match stayed a one-goal game for the duration of the opening period and early in the second half until the Bianchi-Diemer connection struck again in the 49th minute, with Diemer registering her second goal of the day.
Cassidy Bosselaar scored four minutes later to make it 3-0, and that's how the match ended despite fighting spirit from the Lakers' offense against a quality CCAC side on the Trolls' turf.
The Roosevelt defense settled down after Trinity Christian unfurled 15 shots in the first 54 minutes, as the Lakers allowed just three shots the rest of the way.
Roosevelt hosts Calumet-St. Joseph this Tuesday at Toyota Park beginning at 4 p.m.
