MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Roosevelt softball team hung tough with 24th-ranked Cardinal Stritch at Rock Sports Complex on Friday, but the Lakers couldn't rally back from early deficits in both games of a CCAC doubleheader against the host Wolves.
Sam Kusta hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run in the opener, but Stritch (35-5, 10-0 CCAC) turned in a pair of two-run innings early and escaped with a 5-2 win after the Lakers (6-20, 0-10 CCAC) brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
Kristy Santora registered a 2-for-4 time at the dish in the finale and Kusta drove in another run, but the Lakers saw the Wolves use a pair of homers to power a 4-1 decision for the hosts.
Morgan Vogt and Morgan Youskevtch pitched admirably against one of the nation's top-10 teams in total runs (272), holding the Wolves below their average of 7.2 runs per game in each contest.
Roosevelt plays at Purdue North Central on Saturday.
