BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Relentless rain didn't damper Senior Day for the Roosevelt women's soccer team, as four original Lakers were honored before the game and two tallied all three of the Green and White's goals in a season-ending 3-0 victory over Illinois Tech at Toyota Park on Saturday.
Carli Schlaker scored two second-half goals and Jamie Beniac added her seventh of the season in the game's early moments for the Lakers, who capped the season at 7-11-0.
Schlaker, Beniac, Samantha Anderson and Delaney Barrett were feted with their families prior to the game as Roosevelt's first four-year graduating class in women's soccer. The quartet is the sole remaining group of Lakers from the program's first season in 2012.
After the celebration of their decorated careers, the foursome made sure this year's side went out on a winning note.
The rain and chilly temperatures made for a scary Halloween atmosphere, but it was the fearless Beniac who opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a beautiful finish on a ball from Andrea Munoz. Beniac now has 23 career goals in two seasons, making her the young program's all-time leading scorer.
Roosevelt controlled possession throughout and finished with an 11-shot advantage, and two of those attempts on frame came in the second half from Schlaker, a three-time captain who led late offensive fireworks that put the match away.
Schlaker scored in the 50th minute on a rocket after corralling a pass from Chelsea Olson, and less than 10 minutes later she struck again by finishing a service from Mika Reid.
Shortly after Schlaker's second goal, head coach Roland Hahn subbed out the fantastic four so they could receive a deserved ovation for their efforts today and over the years.
Keepers Maria Narcisi and Kara Jones combined for Roosevelt's third shutout of the season, and Olson's assist gave her the team's point title with 20 as a sophomore.
But Saturday was all about Roosevelt's seniors, who gave Lakers fans many treats well before their swan song on Halloween.
