BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Chelsea Olson equalized late in the second half, but visiting Saint Xavier scored early in the second overtime to get past the Roosevelt women's soccer team, 2-1, at Toyota Park on Saturday.
The Lakers fell to 5-7-0 overall and 2-5-0 in CCAC play.
The two sides played to a scoreless stalemate until Saint Xavier (4-8-0, 2-4-0 CCAC) got on the board in the 70th minute when Brittany Kroening scored off a ball from Christina Sperando during a quick-developing 2v1.
It didn't take long for the Lakers to get the tying goal from their second-year standout in the midfield. Olson continued her fantastic sophomore season by running up the right side and taking a shot from 15 yards out in the 75th minute, beating keeper Alex Perry and notching her team-leading sixth goal of the fall to re-set the game at 1-1.
The match appeared to be headed toward a draw, and Danielle Inzinga took what appeared to be a relatively harmless shot amidst a scrum just north of the same area as Olson took her goal-scoring shot. The ball came in toward goal and went through the lowered reach of keeper Kara Jones, ending the game in tough fashion for the Green and White.
