Women's Soccer Scores Four Times In Second Half, But Big TIU First Half Proves Decisive

DEERFIELD, Ill. – The Roosevelt women's soccer team scored four second-half goals in a never-say-die effort, but Trinity International's four-goal first half and 6-0 lead was too much to overcome for the Lakers in a 7-4 loss at Schartner Field on Saturday.

Stephani McBride scored two goals, while team-leading scorer Jamie Beniac tallied her single-season school-record 13th goal and Haley Swords tacked on her fourth of the year for the Lakers (4-11-0, 1-7-0 CCAC).

CCAC leading scorer Samantha Yasatan hit net four times for the host Trojans (9-2-2, 5-1-2 CCAC), a side receiving Top 25 votes.

The first half was one to forget for the visiting Green and White, as Melissa Loretto scored two of the Trojans' four goals in the opening 45 minutes to put the Lakers in a huge hole before halftime.

Things didn't get better early in the second half, as Yasatan continued to add to the hosts' advantage with two more goals for a 6-0 score.

Beniac finally put the Lakers on the board on an assist from McBride in the 77th minute, and Beniac paid it forward with a pass to Swords in the 82nd minute that resulted in a goal and made it a 6-2 game.

Yasatan scored just 23 seconds later to build the TIU lead back to five, but McBride did all the work on markers in the 87th minute and the 90th minute to put Roosevelt within three.

Time ran out on the Lakers despite the 4-3 second-half scoring advantage for Roosevelt.

The Lakers take on Olivert Nazarene this Wednesday, Oct. 29th in Bourbonnais.
