SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sophomore striker Evan Trychta woke the echoes of his Tuesday hat trick with two late goals in Notre Dame territory on Saturday, leading the Roosevelt men's soccer team to its 11th straight win as the result of a 2-0 road decision over host Holy Cross.
The Lakers improved to 11-2-0 overall and an unbeaten 6-0-0 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play to remain in first place after extending their school record streak and moving within a win of last year's school-record victory total.
Trychta proved to be the man of the match for the second straight contest due to his unquestioned speed and power on the pitch that resulted in a pair of second-half goals against the Saints (5-3-4, 2-1-2 CCAC).
After the Lakers withstood a 13-shot first half by the hosts, Roosevelt toned down Holy Cross' offensive noise and eventually broke through with a counter in the 78th minute. Cristhian Jimenez sent in a cross that traveled through the box and into the possession of Trychta, who knocked the ball in for the 1-0 lead.
Trychta then scored for the fifth time in the last two matches by converting an 84th-minute pass from Irving Balboa into a huge insurance goal that proved insurmountable for the Saints.
While Trychta paced the nation's top-ranked offense to its ninth showing of two goals or more, the Lakers's defense continued to stymie the opposing side in recording the Green and White's school-record sixth shutout of the season.
