Six-Run Third Dooms Softball In Twinbill Opener At No. 15 Saint Xavier

CHICAGO - A six-run third inning doomed the Roosevelt softball team in an 8-1 road loss at the hands of 15th-ranked Saint Xavier in the opener of a doubleheader at SXU Softball Field on Tuesday.

Courtney Raschk drove in Roosevelt's only run on an RBI single in the fourth inning.

The two teams were even in the hits department, as Roosevelt and Saint Xavier each churned out seven hits.

The major damage came in the third, when the nationally-ranked Cougars scored six times on five hits. The big hits were Ariel Hinton's two-run single and a three-run triple off the bat of Meg James with the Lakers needing just an out to escape the inning.

Starter Morgan Vogt allowed six hits in three innings, while Katherine Daley tossed three innings of one-hit relief and allowed no earned runs.
