Softball Goes Long Four Times To Abbreviate Nightcap, Sweep Doubleheader Versus TIU

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Four Lakers homered to highlight a 16-hit offensive barrage that propelled the Roosevelt softball team to a 14-3, five-inning nightcap victory over Trinity International at the Ballpark at Rosemont on Wednesday evening.

The Lakers (12-22, 7-7 CCAC) swept Wednesday's doubleheader and won for the sixth time in the last eight games by going yard five times and pounding out 30 hits in two games against the Trojans (0-24, 0-10 CCAC).

Kristy Santora ignited the second game's fireworks by going 3-for-4 with a homer, two triples and four RBI. Courtney Raschk went deep and drove in three runs, Amanda Ferguson homered for the second straight game and Morgan Vogt belted a homer and legged out a triple to highlight her 3-for-4 performance.

Morgan Youskevtch picked up her first collegiate victory in the circle by fanning five in the run-rule-abbreviated five-inning start.

Trinity International took a quick two-run lead after a half-inning of play for the second time during the doubleheader, but Roosevelt responded quickly with a four-run bottom half of the first. Vogt homered with one out, Raschk hit a two-run shot and Jessica Taylor hit an RBI single.

The Lakers tacked on two more in the next inning, highlighted by triples hit by Vogt and Santora, and the game blew open an inning later when the Green and White added to the Trojans' plight by scoring six times. Roosevelt sent 11 hitters to the plate, and Santora tripled again to plate a pair.

Leading 12-3 in the fourth, the Lakers put the game away on homers hit by Ferguson and Santora that pushed the advantage to 11 and allowed Youskevtch to end it early with a 1-2-3 fifth.

Roosevelt heads to Joliet to face St. Francis in a doubleheader this Thursday at 5 p.m.
