Chicago, Ill. - All five starters scored in double figures as the Roosevelt women's basketball team posted its fourth-straight victory with an 81-71 triumph over #10 Grace on Saturday afternoon at Attack Athletics.
The Lakers (7-5) have now topped a pair of nationally-ranked opponents this season, defeating previously 10th-ranked St. Ambrose back on Nov. 27, the victory that started Roosevelt's current winning streak.
The Lakers used their defense to jump out to an early lead on Saturday. Roosevelt forced the Lancers (9-4) into 14 first-half turnovers and turned those miscues into 18 points in building a 13-point halftime lead, 36-23. Grace would get no closer than eight points over the final 20 minutes with an equal opportunity offensive effort and deadeye free throw shooting by Roosevelt keeping the Lancers at bay.
Senior point guard
Alexia Tann continued her steady play in leading the Lakers attack. Tann set a new Roosevelt single-game record with nine assists, while committing just one turnover. She also took advantage of opportunities to create her own shot, finishing the game with 13 points.
Roosevelt converted 13 of its 14 free throw attempts in the second half and went 16-for-18 from the line in the game.
Hannah Lengel totaled a game-high 18 points for Grace, which kept within shouting distance by hitting 7-of-11 three-pointers in the contest, including 6-of-7 in the second half.
The Lakers will look to run their winning streak to six next Saturday when they hit the road to take on Indiana Tech at 2:00 p.m.
