Women's Basketball Edged In Overtime At Ashford, 87-81

Clinton, Iowa - The Roosevelt women's basketball team had its two-game winning streak snapped in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday afternoon as host Ashford edged the Lakers in overtime 87-81 at Kehl Arena.
Roosevelt (3-5) seemingly had all the momentum heading into the extra session after sophomore Maria Tamburrino nailed a three-pointer with one second remaining in regulation to tie the score at 72-72 and force overtime. The Saints (2-5), though, stood strong in the final five minutes with junior guard Patricia Ramos scoring seven of her game-high 23 points in overtime to never let the Lakers grab the lead.
The contest was a back-and-forth affair that saw 11 ties and 14 lead changes prior to the game reaching overtime. The game also had 64 fouls called, which led to 94 free throws between the two squads. Roosevelt was 25-for-41 from the charity stripe. Ashford connected on just 28-of-53 attempts. The Lakers had five players foul out, while the Saints had one.
Sophomore Casey Davis led Roosevelt with 17 points. She also pulled down six rebounds. Tamburrino scored in double figures for the third straight game, finishing with 13 points. Sophomore Kiara Towles posted 13 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Senior Peggie Parhas added 11 points, while senior Alexia Tann dished out six assists.
Ashford shot 51 percent from the field in the second half and overtime to earn the victory. Ramos did more than just score for the Saints, contributing seven rebounds and nine assists to her game-high 23 points. Madison Wayner chipped in with 19 points and six boards.
The Lakers will not have to wait long to get back on the hardwood, concluding a two-game Iowa road swing on Sunday at St. Ambrose at 3:00 p.m.
