Palos Heights, Ill. - Junior Peggie Parhas scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Roosevelt women's basketball team to an 89-69 victory over host Trinity Christian on Friday night in the opening game of the TCC Classic.
Parhas was 11-for-21 from the field, including a personal-best six three-pointers, en route to her career high scoring output. The Harper College product's previous career high was 16 points against Siena Heights back on Dec. 4.
Fellow junior Alexia Tann added 19 points and six rebounds for the Lakers, who improved to 7-4 on the season with the win.
Roosevelt led 41-37 at the half, but took control of the game with a decisive 15-0 run to start the second stanza. The Lakers held the Trolls (3-10) to just one field goal in the first 11 minutes while forcing TCC into 13 turnovers during the stretch to build a 25-point lead they would not relinquish.
In total, Roosevelt badgered Trinity Christian into 31 turnovers and totaled 21 steals. Parhas collected a season-high six steals while freshman Maria Tamburrino was credited with five thefts.
The Lakers will have a quick turnaround as they are in back in action at the TCC Classic on Saturday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. tip-off versus Indiana Northwest.
