WHEATON, Ill. – The Roosevelt track and field teams combined to score 13 points at the Don Church Twilight Meet hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday.
The women scored 11 of those 13 points behind strong performance in both the short- and long-distance runs. Khaniya Higginbotham finished sixth in the 200-meter dash, scoring three points with her time of 25.81 seconds. In the 3,000-meter race Gloria Romero finished in 11:10.51 to place fifth and earn four points.
The Lakers' other four points came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Cristin Moreno placing sixth and Olivia Breeden finishing eighth. Moreno finished in a time of 12:49.2 while Breeden was roughly 90 seconds back in 14:23.86.
Millicent Ghapson just missed out on scoring points by finishing ninth in the high jump after clearing 1.37 meters.
For the men, Tyrin Stewart ran a personal-best 22.35 seconds in the 200 meters to finish eighth and score one point for the Lakers. Javaris Jones finished ninth in the 400 with a season-best time of 51.42 seconds. The Lakers' other point came from Adrian Villareal's jump of 5.96 meters in the long jump to finish eighth.
