ALLENDALE, Mich. – Khaniya Higginbotham continued her record-breaking pace Saturday at the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State.
The senior broke her 200-meter school record yet again to finish 19th in the crowded field of some of the best runners in Division II and Division III. Higginbotham has shaved off nearly half a second off her time from the first meet of the season, running in 26.04 seconds Saturday to finish second in her heat.
If that was not enough, Higginbotham also set the Roosevelt record in the 400 meters with a time of 58.30 seconds to finish 10th. She was drawn into the first heat of the day and quickly separated herself from most of her competitors in the field and finished second behind the defending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion in the event.
Terrion Spencer led the men's results on the track with a 16th-place finish in the 60-meter dash, edging out teammate Tyrin Stewart, who placed 22nd. The Lakers had more success on the jumps with Adrian Villareal taking 13th in the long jump with a leap of 6.08 meters and Kevin Martin finishing 14th in the triple jump at 11.48 meters.
