CHICAGO – A pair of record-setting relays highlighted Roosevelt's participation in the Aurora Grand Prix on Saturday at the Gately Center in Chicago.
The men's 4x200-meter relay team of Joaquin Lopez, Andy Rodriguez, Cole Stumpenhorst and Tyrin Stewart took home third place with a record-setting time of 1:33.07. They beat out strong teams from North Central, Hope, Elmhurst and Purdue Northwest in the process.
The women placed fifth as the team of Heaven Adams, Makenzie Hawk, Khaniya Higginbotham and Kate Sundstrom finished right on the heels of the University of Illinois club team. The quartet set the new program record in the event with a time of 1:50.37.
As individuals, Higginbotham set a new personal record in the 200-meter dash to finish ninth overall, which also set the new program standard at 26.38 seconds. Sundstrom continued her strong work over the hurdles with a fifth-place finish at 60 meters and set a new program record in the long jump with a 5.06-meter leap.
There were several other personal records set by the Lakers over the course of the meet. Zayre Uche ran his best 200 meters and Zabon Robinson beat his record in the 400 meters. Gloria Romero set a personal best with a 5:36 mile and Jadale Mitchell excelled in the weight throw with a personal record of 12.39 meters.
