CHICAGO – Roosevelt senior pitchers
AJ Gliwa and
Jake Glickman were both named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday.
It is the first time either senior was honored for thier achievements in the classroom after both played critical roles for the Lakers pitching staff this season. Gliwa made a team-high 23 appearances this season for Roosevelt, throwing 27.1 innings with a 3-0 record and 4.28 ERA. The Lockport, Ill. native is one of just eight pitchers to make 40 appearances for Roosevelt, tossing 54.2 innings with the perfect 3-0 record.Â
Glickman pitched 12 times with 11 starts and went 3-6 as Roosevelt's main Sunday starter, tossing 46.1 innings on the mound. The Culver City, California native pitched two seasons for the Lakers and finished with seven wins in 23 starts with 106 innings of work.Â
In order to be named to the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete not only hold at least a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore or older. Field players also must have either appeared in 90 percent of a team's games or started 2/3 of a team's contests while pitchers need to either throw 35 innings or make 17 appearances.
The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports in all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. It was established in 1952 and the honorees are nominated by CSC members then All-American honors are voted on by the membership as well.
