James Berry Headlines Lakers' All-GLIAC Honorees

BAY CITY, Mich. – Roosevelt senior outfielder James Berry headlined the four Lakers named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team, the league announced Thursday during the first day of the conference tournament.

Berry was named a first-team outfielder after finishing fourth in the league with a .399 batting average and third in the conference with 75 hits. Senior third baseman Kekoa Ogawa was named to the second team and finished in the top-five in the league in both batting average and hits. Junior left-hander Keagan Bobbitt and junior catcher Kyle Jannenga were named honorable mention as well for the Lakers.

The highlight of the season for Berry was his 32-game hitting streak through March and April, setting the program record for longest hitting streak. During that stretch, the Southfield, Mich. native batted .422 with 25 RBI and 24 runs scored at the top of the Roosevelt lineup. Berry finished the year with a .460 on-base percentage while leading the team with 33 RBI and 13 doubles. He also led the league and finished fourth in the nation with seven triples this season.

"James has had an outstanding season, and it started with his preparation in the fall," Roosevelt head coach Jason Becker said. "He wanted to come out and show how he can perform. He proved he is one of the top players in the conference and to have a 32 -game hit streak during the season is one of the great accomplishments in Lakers baseball history.  We are very proud to have James represent Roosevelt on the All- GLIAC first team."

Ogawa followed up his All-American season in 2024 with another spectacular season in 2025 for the Lakers. The senior from Hawaii hit .374 with 32 RBI and 18 extra-base hits, and led Roosevelt with 40 runs scored. Only three players in the GLIAC with at least 100 at-bats struck out fewer than Ogawa's 14 strikeouts this season as he finished with a .447 on-base percentage.

"Koa is a freakish athlete and proved he can follow up an All-American season in the NAIA with an impressive season at the D2 level" Becker said. "Koa has been feared at the plate and when Koa came to the plate the last two seasons, we knew he was always going to give us a great at-bat. It is well deserved that he was named to All-GLIAC 2nd team."

Bobbitt made 11 starts in 12 appearances this season for the Lakers and finished with a misleading 5.59 ERA and 2-6 record. He led the Lakers with 52 strikeouts, including 10 in a complete-game effort against Purdue Northwest on April 18. The New Lenox, Ill. native finished fourth in the GLIAC with 34 strikeouts in conference play despite pitching just 29 innings in six starts against conference opponents.

Jannenga turned up his performance in GLIAC play, batting .309 with two home runs and a team-high 19 RBI in Roosevelt's conference games. He doubled nine times in league play and had seven multi-hit games in 22 conference appearances this season. Defensively, the Willowbrook, Ill. native led the conference by catching 20 runners trying to steal in 57 attempts with him behind the plate.
