Roosevelt Trio Named Academic All-District Selections

CHICAGO – Roosevelt softball's trio of all-conference players earned academics plaudits on Tuesday after being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.

Senior Brynn Dvoracek earned this honor for a second consecutive year while sophomores Ella Dvoracek and Kailey Hancock both received the recognition in their first year of eligibility. The threesome all were second-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selections this season for the Lakers, helping Roosevelt qualify for the conference tournament.

Ella Dvoracek was a problem for opposing teams at the top of the lineup for Roosevelt and started every game this season in the outfield. She led the team by batting .385 overall and reached base almost 43 percent of the time. Her 37 runs scored were more than twice as many as any other Lakers player and ranked seventh in the GLIAC. The sophomore from Downers Grove also was placed on the Academic All-America ballot for the CSC membership, and those votes will be announced on June 17.

Brynn, the elder Dvoracek sister, started all 46 games at first base for the Lakers and led the team with 36 RBIs from the clean-up position in the lineup. Meanwhile, Hancock had a standout sophomore campaign with an 8-11 record and 3.46 ERA in 29 appearances. She struck out 52 batters and walked just 24 hitters in 123.1 innings in the circle, the second fewest walks issued in the GLIAC this season.

In order to be named to the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete not only hold at least a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore or older. Field players also must have either appeared in 90 percent of a team's games or started 2/3 of a team's contests while pitchers need to either throw 35 innings or make 17 appearances.

The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports in all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. It was established in 1952 and the honorees are nominated by CSC members then All-American honors are voted on by the membership as well.
