CHICAGO – Roosevelt's regular season came to an end with a 7-0 loss to Saginaw Valley State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Friday at XS Tennis.
The Lakers did secure a win at No. 3 doubles as
Ximena Mercado and
Fabiola Rivas teamed up for a 6-4 win. However, tight losses at No. 1 and 2 doubles gave the Cardinals the first point in the match.
Saginaw Valley State won five of the six singles matches in straight sets, though Roosevelt's top players all put up strong fights.
Teodora Petrica dropped the first set of her match 7-5 while
Varvara Ogorodnikova lost both of her sets 7-5 as well.
Ximena Mercado at No. 5 singles was the only player to win a set, sweeping the second set of her match 6-0 before falling 6-3 in the final set.
