Lakers Sweep Eagles With Strong Offensive Showing

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ELGIN, Ill. – Roosevelt's offense showed up in a big way Saturday afternoon, powering the Lakers to a sweep of Judson in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader in Elgin.

The Lakers (11-15, 6-2 CCAC) opened the first game of the doubleheader with four runs in the first two innings to take control of the game. Roosevelt then added on two important runs late to claim a 6-5 win over the Eagles. There was no need for insurance tallies in the second game with Kate Sisson shutting down the Judson lineup with a four-hit shutout in a 9-0 six-inning victory.

Bailee Reynolds started the scoring Saturday for the Lakers, driving home Scout Kram with a first-inning single into right field. Anaisa Lozada immediately followed with an infield single of her own that scored a run, giving the Lakers a 2-0 lead on four hits while leaving the bases loaded in the first. Kram doubled into right field in the second inning to plate Ella Dvoracek then Reynolds again scored Kram, this time with a single into left field.

Judson cut its deficit to 4-2 entering the sixth when once again Kram was stirring up trouble for the Eagles. Her groundball to the shortstop forced an error, allowing a run to score. Caitlin Williams added an RBI groundout in the seventh inning to send the Lakers to the bottom of the last with a four-run edge.

Samantha Norman was cruising in the circle for the Lakers for much of the day, striking out nine while walking just one over seven innings. However, half of the six hits she allowed came in the seventh inning when the Eagles tried to mount a comeback. Norman recorded a strikeout for the first out of the inning then traded a run for the second out before inducing a popup to end the game.

Sisson was dominant in the circle when she took the ball for the second game despite not recording a strikeout. She allowed only four hits and never was in much danger until the fourth inning when the Eagles had back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Yet Sisson was calm under pressure as she's been her entire career and induced the pop fly to end the inning.

Roosevelt's offense was sure to give Sisson plenty of run support, scoring in five of the six innings that were played. Reynolds doubled in the first inning, allowing Kram to score after she reached on a fielder's choice. Pomele-Pen came up with the double in the third inning to tack on two more runs then Emily Zuniga stole home on a double steal in the fourth.

Brynn Dvoracek came up with an RBI single in the fifth inning to put the Lakers up 5-0, leading to a sixth inning that dashed any hopes of a Judson comeback. Williams drew a walk then Ella Dvoracek moved over the runner for Kram to again induce a fielding error that allowed her to reach base and Williams to score.

Pomele-Pen followed with a run-scoring single into center field before advancing to third via a wild pitch and flyout. Lozada worked a walk then Brynn Dvoracek was hit by the pitch, loading the bases for Zuniga to single into left field and bring home a run. A second run scored on the play courtesy of an error from the left fielder, which allowed everyone to move up a base. Sisson did the rest with a perfect sixth inning for a run-rule victory.

The Lakers are currently scheduled to return to action Tuesday in Rosemont when Roosevelt welcomes Saint Xavier for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
