Lakers Cut Down Mighty Oaks With Doubleheader Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – A three-run fifth inning in the second game helped Roosevelt defeat Oakland City 6-4 to finish off a non-conference sweep of the Mighty Oaks in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon in Oakland City, Ind.

The Lakers (4-2) entered the top of the fifth inning of the back half of the doubleheader down 4-2, but it took just two batters to tie the game. Bryce Hayman led off the frame with a single before Kekoa Ogawa blasted his second home run of the season over the left-field fence. James Berry was hit by a pitch then moved to third on a single from Aiden Brushaber before Jayden Leo brought him home with a single to give Roosevelt the lead.

Jojo Mack got the Lakers off to a strong start with a third-inning double that plated Sebastian Castillas. In the next inning, Castillas – who was 3 for 4 in the game – scored Fabian Cruz with a single through the right side of the infield to give Roosevelt a 2-0 lead. After Leo put the Lakers in front 5-4, Danny Holloway rounded out the scoring in the seventh with an RBI single through the right side to score Luca Paolucci.

Roosevelt won the first game of the day 3-1 behind the strong duo of Jake Glickman and Jared Daley on the mound. Glickman surrendered just three hits in his three innings of work and was charged with an unearned run. Daley took over and pitched the next three innings, allowing two hits and striking out four before Connor Collins took over for the save.

Casillas had an RBI groundout in the second inning to put the Lakers ahead in the opener and Mack added to the lead with a sacrifice fly of his own later in the frame. Roosevelt went ahead 3-0 in the next inning on a Jack Kieffer double that scored Berry before Kieffer was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple.

Roosevelt is scheduled to return to action Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Purdue Northwest in Hammond, Ind.
