BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Roosevelt certainly saved its best performances for last while closing out the 2024 cross country season Saturday at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich.
Although the Lakers finished last as a team in both the men's and women's races, a majority of Roosevelt's runners set personal bests in the event. On the men's side, five of the seven runners entered finished with their best career times, and one was just seven seconds off his personal record. Two women also set personal records Saturday for Roosevelt.
Gloria Romero made her season debut for the Lakers and led the team by placing 81
st with a time of 24:47 for the 6K race.
Cristin Moreno was 92
nd in a time of 25:58, followed by
Shelsee Isassi in 95
th position with a time of 26:28.
Destiny Ashcraft was 97
th in a personal record 26:43 immediately followed by
Lisset Munoz in a time of 27:12 for 98
th place.
Angie Delgado closed our her collegiate career in a time of 28:18 to finish 102
nd.
For the fourth consecutive year,
Brandon Saavedra paced the Lakers at a conference championship meet, finishing 72
nd with a personal best of 27:02 for the 8K course.
Rocco Cipolla's time of 27:43 was good enough for 84
th place as a freshman and he was followed by
Jason Perez-Martin, who set a personal record with a time of 28:08.
Raul Ortiz broke 30 minutes for the first time in his career, finishing in 29:45 for 104
th overall.
Cristian Martinez was just seven seconds slower than his personal best, completing the race in 31:16 while
Breno Teodoro and Ajay Marquez both set personal bests in the race.
The Lakers will now transition into the indoor track and field season. The full schedule for Roosevelt's meets will be announced at a later date.
