Box Score 2 GRANGER, Ind. – The Roosevelt University baseball team earned a CCAC Conference doubleheader sweep over Indiana University South Bend, winning 13-5 and 9-5 at Rex Weade Stadium in Granger, Ind. The Lakers also swept the season series to raise their conference record to 14-11 and their overall record to 20-21 on the year.
The Lakers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead to start the day on a three-run homer from Jaylen Heard, scoring Jojo Mack and Daniel Gutierrez, who each walked earlier in the inning. Roosevelt went up 4-0 in the third inning with Heard coming through again, this time with a double down the right field line to score Luca Paolucci, who pinch ran for Hunter Darst.
The Titans answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs on three hits and an error to cut the RU lead to 4-3. However, the Lakers blew open the game with to two runs in the fourth and seven runs in the fifth to lead 13-3.
In the fourth inning, Andrew Olszewski singled up the middle, moved to second on wild pitch, advanced to third on a Danny Holloway base hit, and eventually scored on a Titan error. Holloway later scored on a fielder's choice during Gutierrez' at bat.
The Lakers loaded the bases in the seventh inning with Heard and Sean Blanchard walking and Olszewski singling. Holloway followed with a single through the left side to bring in Heard and Olszewski and then Mack doubled to left center to score Holloway and Jonathan Salm, who pinch ran for Blanchard. Gutierrez singled up the middle to drive in Mack and Darst hit a homerun to right center for the final two runs of the inning.
In game two of the day, it was the Titans who grabbed the lead with three runs on four hits and an error in the bottom of the third and another run on one hit in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. However, the Lakers scored three runs in the next three innings to jump ahead 9-4.
Roosevelt loaded the bases in the sixth inning on walks to Nick McAlister and Darst and a base hit by Gutierrez. Heard then also walked to bring in McAlister, Olszewski singled to drive in Gutierrez, and Blanchard earned a walk to score Darst.
In the seventh inning, the Lakers loaded the bases once again on a McAlister base hit, a Gutierrez bunt single, and Heard hit by a pitch. A wild pitch scored McAlister and advanced the other runners, while Blanchard followed with a single to score both Gutierrez and Heard. Trevor Heinlein provided the spark in the eighth inning, hitting a three-run homer to center field to close out RU's scoring.
