Box Score 2 CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Roosevelt University baseball team dropped both games of a CCAC doubleheader against Judson University on Thursday, April 14. Game one finished in seven innings, with the Eagles on top 13-3. The second game went nine innings, and finished with an identical 13-3 score. With the two losses, the Lakers are now 9-8 in conference play and 15-18 overall this season.
After a scoreless first inning to start game one, the Judson offense got rolling in the second scoring six runs on five hits. The Lakers looked to cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning when Jaylen Heard ripped a double to right center. A single by Andrew Olszewski advanced Heard to third and he later scored on a fielder's choice. That was all that the Lakers offense could muster as the inning ended with Judson ahead 6-1.
Down 13-1 in the seventh, the Lakers looked to put together a late rally. With two on and two outs, Jojo Mack reached safely on an error by the Judson shortstop that scored Jonathan Salm. Trevor Heinlein followed up with a single through the right side scoring Nick McAlister. That's as far as the Lakers rally would go as game one went to Judson, 13-3.
Game two looked to start in similar fashion for Judson, but after an Eagles triple, starting pitcher TJ Murray was able to catch the runner in a rundown and get out of the inning unscathed. The Lakers were poised to capitalize on the good fortune as Daniel Gutierrez led off the game with a single. After a Jojo Mack grounder slipped through the legs of the Eagles' shortstop, Gutierrez scored on a hard ground ball by Trevor Heinlein, giving the Lakers an early 1-0 advantage.
The Lakers kept their foot on the pedal in the second inning. After Sean Blanchard walked to leadoff the inning and Jesus Gomez forced a two out walk, Daniel Gutierrez continued his hot hitting. Gutierrez ripped a double that slipped past the left fielder, scoring pinch runner Luca Paolucci and Gomez, giving the Lakers a 3-0 lead through two. Despite the strong start, today was not the Lakers day as the Eagles scored 13 unanswered runs to claim their second 13-3 victory of the day.
