Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. – After a day off on its spring Arizona trip, the Roosevelt University softball team returned to action on Wednesday, March 9, defeating Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) by the score of 5-1 and losing to Valley City State University (N.D.) by the score of 9-5. With the doubleheader split, the Lakers now own a 3-5 overall record this season.
DAKOTA WESLEYAN GAME RECAP
Dakota Wesleyan scored the first run of the game with a single run on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. However, the Lakers came back with five unanswered runs over the next three innings with solo runs in the third, fourth, and fifth and two runs in the sixth, while Hailey Getz threw five shutout innings in relief for the 5-1 win.
In the third inning, Anaisa Lozada led off with a triple and scored on an error on a two-out Kelly Farmer ground ball. Brielle Carre then led off the fourth inning with a double to right center, stole third base, and scored on a throwing error on the play.
Lozada got things started again in the fifth inning with an infield single and advanced to second on another Dakota Wesleyan error. Two batters later, Athena Pomele-Pen singled to center to bring in Lozada for a 3-1 lead.
Emily Zuniga tripled and scored on a double by Ashlyn Kitter for the first run in the sixth inning. Lozada then laid down a bunt and was thrown out attempting to advance to second base, scoring Kitter who advanced home on the throw for the final run of the game.

VALLEY CITY STATE UNIVERSITY RECAP
The Vikings loaded the bases with one out in the top of the second inning and came through with a two-out grand slam to take a 4-0 lead.
The Lakers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to close the gap to 4-3. Eliza Belter and Kassie Kawka walked and Emliy Zuniga singled to load the bases for Roosevelt. Ashlyn Kitter then drew a walk of her own to score Belter, and Kawka and Zuniga scored a batter later on a Valley City State error on an Anaisa Lozada dropped line drive.
Valley City State hit a solo home run in the third inning and added four runs on three hits, including a two-run homer, in the fourth inning to push its advantage to 9-3.
Roosevelt got a run back in the bottom of the fourth with three consecutive two-out base hits by Lozada, Kirstin Fudge, and Athena Pomele-Pen to load the bases and Lozada scoring on a wild pitch. The Lakers also scored a solo run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Brynn Dvoracek scored on a Kawka base hit after reaching on a pinch-hit double.
