Box Score JOPLIN, Mo. – The Roosevelt University baseball team suffered a 13-0 loss to Briar Cliff University (Iowa) on Sunday, February 20 at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin, Mo. The Lakers are now 1-2 in the young season.
The Lakers struggled offensively with only four base hits in the non-conference game, while the Chargers were able to score two runs on two hits off of RU starter TJ Murray in the top of the second inning. Murray kept Roosevelt in the game, holding Briar Cliff off the scoreboard until the fifth inning when the Chargers added another run to make it a 3-0 game.
Murray left the game in the fifth inning and the Chargers blew open the game with five runs in both the sixth and seventh innings off the Lakers bullpen. The RU relievers walked nine batters during the spell and the 13-0 deficit was too much to overcome for the Lakers.
