Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Strong starts in each set from the Roosevelt Lakers were quickly overshadowed in a three-set loss to Cardinal Stritch on Thursday in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action in Milwaukee, Wis.
Roosevelt won the first point of the match and held a 3-1 lead before the Wolves ripped off eight straight points to take control of the opening set. In total, Cardinal Stritch won 16 of the next 19 points after the Lakers' hot start to dominate the first set en route to a 25-11 victory. The Wolves had 13 kills in the opening set while the Lakers managed just six, which were counteracted by six errors.
The Lakers (6-18, 5-9 CCAC) again pushed the Wolves to start the second set and led 6-5 before Cardinal Stritch went on a 11-2 run to capture control. Roosevelt was able to hit with the Wolves after that point, but it was unable to cut down the deficit before dropping the set 25-16.
It felt like Roosevelt had put its game together in the third set when it jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. The Wolves came back to tie the set at six, but the Lakers responded to hold a 12-9 edge. However, Cardinal Stritch found one more run, winning 11 of the next 13 points to take the lead and complete the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third set. Roosevelt had no answer all night for Cardinal Stritch's offense, which had a hitting percentage above 40 percent and hit at least 33 percent in every set of the match.
Jessa Henry paced the Lakers with eight kills and nine assists while also adding four digs defensively. Zoe Hutchinson had seven assists and seven digs in the loss for Roosevelt and Viktoria Marysheva added seven kills as well.
Roosevelt returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks to host St. Xavier at noon Saturday inside the Goodman Center.
