Softball Celebrates Seniors, Splits Home Finale With Indiana Tech

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Roosevelt University softball team celebrated Senior Day at The Parkway Bank Sports Complex on Saturday, May 1, honoring 10 women who have positively impacted the program over the course of their tenures prior to the Lakers' final home games of 2021 against Indiana Tech.

Roosevelt honored 2021 seniors Aisley Njissang (SR/Los Altos, Calif.), Amber Green (SR/Palos Park, Ill.), Karissa Williams (SR/Elgin, Ill.), Jasmine Lopez (JR/Pingree Grove, Ill.), Kayla Jones (SR/Chicago, Ill.) and Emily Berni (JR/Menifee, Calif.). The Lakers also recognized 2020 seniors Brinn Arwood, Caitlyn Santiago and Camryn Higgs, along with graduate assistant and former Olivet Nazarene standout Makenna Emerson, as part of the ceremony with their Senior Days cancelled last year due to the impacts of COVID-19.

As for the non-conference games, the Lakers rallied back from a deficit as large as three runs, scoring seven times within the third and fourth innings, to take the opener from the Warriors by a final of 7-4. That victory extended the Lakers' winning streak to seven games, matching a program-best string of wins set earlier this season.

Roosevelt rallied once again on Jasmine Lopez's fifth-inning RBI single in game two while Samantha Norman (FR/Shorewood, Ill.) was strong in the circle with eight innings of tremendous complete-game work, and the Lakers almost completed a second rally in the eighth inning, but the Lakers' seven-game winning streak was halted as Indiana Tech edged Roosevelt in extras, 2-1.
