Box Score 2 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Matt Garbacz tossed a seven-inning gem to open the 2020 spring slate for the Roosevelt baseball team, helping the Lakers split two games at Campbellsville's HIG Field on Saturday.
Garbacz gave up just five hits and two runs while fanning five in a 4-2 complete-game win against Madonna (Mich.) in a neutral-site game.
The Lakers concluded the day against 25th-ranked Campbellsville, falling 12-3.
Uzair Shaikh put the Lakers ahead in game one with a two-run single in the third, and Jordan Coakley scored a run on a balk in that same frame.
After Madonna tallied two on a single and a sac fly in the bottom half of the third, Roosevelt tacked on a key fourth-inning tally on Joey Fox's RBI single.
Garbacz did the rest, keeping the Crusaders off the scoreboard and stranding three runners in the final four frames. The senior ended the game with a strikeout.
Fox and Kerry Zeese had three-hit showings.
In game two, Matt Marrera had two hits, but the Lakers were done in by two five-run innings by the hosts and four RU errors.
Fox had another RBI, while Connor Graefen drove in two runs late.
Roosevelt concludes the weekend with a single game against Campbellsville on Sunday afternoon.
