CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Roosevelt baseball team concluded its spring slate-opening weekend in Kentucky on Sunday, falling to host and 25th-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) by a final of 6-1 at HIG Field.
The Lakers (1-7) mustered just two hits against the Tigers (11-5), as Matt Marrera and Dom Lentini supplied the singles.
Roosevelt struck first on a nicely-manufactured run as Lou Reynolds reached by way of a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After he moved to third on Marrera's single, Reynolds scored when Marrera's stolen base attempt drew a throw and allowed the senior to hustle home from third.
Unfortunately that was all the Lakers could do offensively, and Campbellsville scored five times in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Matt Donahue pitched 2.1 innings of relief after Mathias exited in the sixth. Beyond the fifth-inning blemish, Mathias gave the Lakers a strong showing.
Roosevelt is scheduled to open CCAC and home slate play at Ozinga Field on Tuesday, March 3 against St. Ambrose in a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m.
