LAKEVILLE, Ind. – The bats were on fire for the Roosevelt baseball team against Indiana South Bend on Saturday, as the Lakers pounded out 31 hits and swept a road doubleheader.
The Lakers (6-20, 6-9 CCAC) had nine hits and nine runs in a 9-3 win in the opener before rallying to force extras with a four-run ninth and scored two runs in the 11th inning for a wild 15-13 comeback victory over the Titans (7-27, 5-10 CCAC).
Matt Garbacz had a quality start with a complete-game seven-inning showing of just four hits and three runs, and the Lakers jumped out to a quick four-run lead after the top of the first to cruise to the win in the first game.
IUSB scored seven runs in the bottom of the first of game two, but the Lakers chipped away and knotted the game in the ninth on Matt Kozlak's two-run homer and Dom Lentini's two-run single.
Joey Fox then hit a two-out, two-run single in the 11th, with Matt Donahue closing the door with a 1-2-3 11th that finished his five innings of winning relief.
Kozlak finished the nightcap 5-for-5 with four RBI. Fox drove in four runs, and Kerry Zeese had four hits.
The series between Roosevelt and IUSB concludes at Ozinga Field on Sunday at 1pm.
