CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Five different Lakers drove in runs, including Jake Hutchinson during his 3-for-3 day that saw him reach base four times, but visiting Indiana South Bend broke a 3-3 tie with a five-run seventh inning to defeat the Roosevelt baseball team, 9-5, at Ozinga Field on Sunday.
Hutchinson, Matt Marrera, Parker Coleman, Zach Taylor and Jordan Coakley all drove in runs for the Lakers (6-21, 6-10 CCAC), who scored first with a two-run opening inning on two-out Taylor and Coakley hits and led 3-1 after five.
Jordan Mikolajewski allowed just one run through five innings until the Titans (8-27, 6-10 CCAC) knotted the game in the sixth and then broke the deadlock with a five-run seventh accentuated by Matt Miller's two-run homer.
The Lakers attempted a rally in the bottom of the ninth, scoring twice on RBI hits from Marrera and Coleman. Roosevelt had two on with two outs, but Taylor hit a grounder that forced Coleman out at second to end the comeback try.
Despite the loss, the Lakers took the weekend series from the Titans thanks to Saturday's doubleheader sweep.
