FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Roosevelt softball team couldn't generate much scoring until the sixth inning of Friday's finale against Indiana Tech in a non-conference road doubleheader loss at Warrior Park.
The Lakers (7-24) were shut out in the opener by a final of 4-0 before facing a similar fate with a 5-0 deficit until resilient Roosevelt attempted a comeback with a three-run sixth that came up just a little short in a 5-3 result in the nightcap.
Haley Huss had a team-leading three hits during the doubleheader while driving in a run and scoring a run on a wild pitch during the Lakers' big sixth.
Aisley Njissang also drove in a run.
Hailey Getz took a tough-luck loss in the opener, allowing just four hits and three earned runs in six innings.
Despite outhitting the Warriors (12-17) 7-4, the Lakers couldn't get a run across against Amanda Shonka and Ally Verluys and stranded all seven runners.
RU was no-hit by Ashley Alvey for 5.2 innings in the nightcap until Huss broke it up and drove in Megan Crymes. Indiana Tech went to the bullpen and the Lakers brought in two more runs on Njissang's bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch, but that is all Roosevelt could tally the rest of the way.
