ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Roosevelt softball team picked up a pair of run-rule wins over visiting Trinity Christian on Tuesday evening, winning 8-0 and 9-1 to sweep the Trolls at The Ballpark at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
Haley Huss opened the first game with a leadoff inside-the-park home run, an apt start as it was all Roosevelt (13-28, 7-13 CCAC) the rest of the way.
Huss drove in two runs in the opener, while Caitlyn Santiago and Cam Wicker had two hits apiece to support Brinn Arwood's five shutout innings. Huss ended the first game with a fifth-inning sacrifice fly to invoke the run rule.
In the finale, Santiago drove in two runs and the Lakers broke the game opener with a six-run third.
Riley Landenberger started and tossed a scoreless first before giving way to Madison Lentz, who threw nearly three shutout innings for the decision before Hailey Getz finished out the game.
Camryn Williams tripled in a run and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to put the run rule back into effect for the second straight game.
Roosevelt takes on Aquinas and Rochester during a Friday-Saturday non-conference excursion through Michigan.
