Women's Basketball Dominates Glass, Defeats Judson To Secure Ragsdale's First Win As Head Coach

CHICAGO – Lindzy Cox scored 22 points in 26 minutes off the bench amidst a well-rounded attack by the Roosevelt women's basketball team, as the Lakers cruised past visiting Judson 92-65 at the Goodman Center on Saturday to secure Emily Ragsdale's first win as a head coach.

Cox had a double-double with 11 rebounds while nearing triple-double territory thanks to her six assists for the Lakers (1-4, 1-1 CCAC).

JayShari Chears added 17 points, six assists and six rebounds, while Ashley Smoldt chipped in 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Cearrah Huddleston provided 10 points, eight boards and three steals.

Bolstered by the return of veteran post Jordan Fierst and the debut of 6-foot-1 Daphyne Turner, a dual-sport student-athlete best known for her blocking on the Roosevelt women's volleyball team, the Lakers dominated on the glass 62-26. Roosevelt had more offensive rebounds than Judson's overall rebound total.

Six Lakers had at least nine points, while that same total had at least six rebounds.

Roosevelt broke open a close game with a 19-3 burst to start the second quarter, and after Judson (0-6, 0-3 CCAC), closed the gap to 14 early in the fourth, the Lakers went on another huge run to go up by 30 during the late stages of regulation.

Ragsdale's first win as a college head coach fittingly came against Judson, her alma mater and the team she played for from 2012-15.

Roosevelt tangles with Illinois Tech at IIT's Keating Center this Monday at 7 p.m.
