NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Becca Bergman and Lindzy Cox scored 22 points apiece, and the Roosevelt women's basketball team needed five extra minutes to extend its winning streak to six with a 77-65 overtime road win over Holy Cross (Ind.) on Wednesday.
Bergman went a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line and handed out six assists, while Cox corralled seven rebounds for the Lakers (11-8, 4-5 CCAC).
Nadia Thorman-McKey had another strong line on the stat sheet, scoring 13 points, pulling down 12 rebounds and pilfering four steals.
Keysha Streator scored 21 points, including two on an OT-forcing jumper in the final seconds of regulation, for the Saints (9-10, 6-3 CCAC).
Roosevelt struggled from the field for most of regulation while Holy Cross shot 50 percent or better during the first three quarters.
The Lakers rallied with a big fourth quarter, outscoring the Saints 20-10 to take a four-point lead with 26 seconds left before Alex Forster and Streator hit back-to-back jumpers to force an extra session.
Roosevelt dominated overtime, outscoring HCC 15-3 by connecting on 4-of-5 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line while allowing just one field goal off the fingertips of a Saints player during the game's last five minutes.
Bergman was the late-game catalyst, scoring nine points in the fourth quarter and eight in the extra session for 17 points in 15 minutes.
Thanks to Thorman-McKey and Co., the Lakers outrebounded the Saints by 11 and held a 22-9 advantage on the offensive glass.
"I am very proud of our team for this win," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said after another win by her team. "We faced adversity and stayed the course. Becca controlled tempo and was exceptional down the stretch. Lindzy continued to fill up the stat sheet, while Nadia dominated the glass. We got great bench contributions from Cearrah Huddleston, Jordan Fierst and Tanea White as well. I could keep going. This was an all-around team effort and a huge conference win on the road."
Roosevelt sets its sights on a seventh straight decision when the Lakers host Trinity International on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside the Goodman Center.
