CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The Roosevelt baseball team rallied back from six runs down to take a slim lead late against Trinity Christian, but the Trolls tied the game in the eighth and used a four-run ninth to get past the Lakers, 12-8, in the regular season finale at Standard Bank Stadium on Tuesday.
Roosevelt finishes the regular season 25-22 overall and 19-11 in CCAC play, while Trinity Christian went to 30-21 overall and 18-12 in the CCAC.
Charley Zeschke, Jonah Meidl-Zahorodny, Andrew Bohlman and Matt Kozlak had three-hit games, while Zach Taylor drove in three runs, including the tying and go-ahead runs during Roosevelt's four-run sixth.
The Trolls posted a five-spot in the fourth to go up six, but Roosevelt showed off its resiliency and answered with a three-run fifth to get within three.
Zeschke and Tyler Ward hit back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth to get the Lakers within a run, and Taylor delivered a two-out, two-run base knock to bring in Zeschke with the game-tying run and Bohlmann with the go-ahead tally.
The Lakers nursed a one-run lead into the eighth when the Trolls scored a run to knot the game at 8-8.
Trinity Christian churned out six hits to bring in four runs in the top of the ninth to reclaim the lead, and Roosevelt went down in order in the bottom of the inning to cap the regular season.
Roosevelt turns its attention to its first-ever postseason action. The Lakers begin the 2018 CCAC Tournament this weekend in Elgin.
