Baseball Splits Two Against Titans

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – A dominating Matt Dunne pitching performance and a relentless offense highlighted the Roosevelt baseball team's 15-1 twinbill-opening win and doubleheader split against Indiana South Bend at Standard Bank Stadium on Sunday.

The Lakers (15-17, 11-6 CCAC) could not carry their opening-game offense into game two, as the Titans (8-28, 3-13 CCAC) returned the favor and limited Roosevelt to just one run in IUSB's 4-1 win in the finale.

Matt Kozlak went 4-for-5 in the first game as Roosevelt churned out 12 hits and plated nine of its 15 tallies in the second inning.

Zach Taylor drove in three runs as three other Lakers, Charley Zeschke, Andrew Bohlmann and Jonah Meidl-Zahorodny, drove in two runs each.

Dunne scattered five hits and allowed just a single run to stymie the Titans and pick up his fifth win of the season.

Matt Garbacz took the ball in the second affair and turned in a quality start despite taking the tough-luck loss. The sophomore allowed just three earned runs in 8.2 innings, keeping the Lakers in the game and hurt by a tie-breaking two-run sixth.

Roosevelt couldn't solve Indiana South Bend starter Andy Ross, who gave up just one unearned run and consistently escaped trouble caused by issuing six free passes. Closer Zane Gonzalez pitched two perfect innings for the save.

The Lakers take to the road to take on Olivet Nazarene on Tuesday.
