Baseball Drops Series Opener To Judson

ELGIN, Ill. - Zach Taylor drove in three runs, but the Roosevelt baseball team couldn't stop CCAC regular season champion Judson from erasing the Lakers' early two-run lead with a six-run fourth as the Eagles took the opener of this weekend's three-game series by a final of 13-3 on Friday.

Taylor hit a two-run single in the second to start the game's scoring and added a sixth-inning sac fly, but that's all the Lakers (23-21, 17-10 CCAC) could muster against Dan Gerke, who went the distance and fanned 10 Lakers for the host Eagles (31-14, 23-4 CCAC).

Roosevelt led 2-0 after Taylor's second-inning offense, but Judson scored single runs in the second and third to tie the game. The Eagles then chased starter Anthony Nicholas during a six-run fourth that put Judson ahead for good.

The Lakers will try to bounce back with a doubleheader against Judson at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
