LAKEVILLE, Ind. - The Roosevelt baseball team scored seven runs in the first two innings to set the tone early and give starter Matt Dunne more than enough cushion to lead the Lakers to a 12-1 road win at Indiana South Bend at Newton Park on Wednesday.
Roosevelt (17-18, 13-7 CCAC) clinched a series decision over the Titans (8-31, 4-16 CCAC) with the win.
Matt Kozlak had another three-hit day, while Charley Zeschke drove in three runs.
For the second time in four days against the Titans, Dunne was dominant with seven innings of one-run ball. After getting just one strikeout in a win on Sunday, Dunne multiplied that output by six on Wednesday while scattering five hits.
Zeschke had RBI hits in Roosevelt's three-run first and four-run second, with his second-inning hit a run-scoring triple, and Tyler Ward drove in two during the big second as the Lakers went out in front 7-0 after two frames.
The offense didn't stop, and Dunne's seven combined with Andrew Bohlmann and Matt Donahue each pitching a perfect inning in relief to give Roosevelt a no-doubt decision.
Roosevelt tangles with St. Francis (Ill.) at Standard Bank Stadium in a three-game series this weekend. Saturday's games are the Fighting Saints' home games with their usual stadium unavailable due to turf installation, while Sunday hosting duties belongs to the Lakers.
