Matt Garbacz Named CCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

CHICAGO – Roosevelt University sophomore right-handed pitcher Matt Garbacz (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook HS) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 25, the CCAC announced on the morning of Tuesday, March 27.

Garbacz earned the conference honor, which is the first of his Roosevelt career, by shutting down a pair of conference lineups within a span of seven days.

He blanked Saint Xavier on March 19 with a complete-game three-hit shutout of the Cougars that propelled the Lakers to a 1-0 win.

Garbacz followed up that performance with yet another gem on the mound by keeping Calumet St. Joseph off the scoreboard on March 25. He tossed eight innings of four-hit shutout ball against the Crimson Wave that sent the Lakers to a 6-0 win.

In those shutout wins, Garbacz pitched 15 out of 16 innings and struck out six batters in each game.

On the season, Garbacz has a 2.43 earned run average, 22 strikeouts and only seven walks in just over 33 innings of work.
