Baseball Upended By Olivet Nazarene's Late Scoring Surge

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Wednesday's game between the Roosevelt and Olivet Nazarene baseball teams stood deadlocked at 1-1 after seven innings in a pitchers' duel, but the Tigers surged ahead with nine runs in the final two frames to defeat the host Lakers, 10-1, at Standard Bank Stadium.

Jonah Meidl-Zahorodny drove in the only run of the day for the Lakers (8-13, 4-2 CCAC) on a game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.

Anthony Nicholas took the loss despite allowing just one run after seven innings due to a fateful eighth that saw the Tigers (14-11, 4-2 CCAC) score four times, including two runs charged to Nicholas.

Olivet posted a five-spot in the ninth to run away with the decision.

Roosevelt couldn't do much against starter Graham Burke, who fired seven innings of three-hit ball to get the win.

The Lakers will look to bounce back with a three-game set against Calumet St. Joseph this weekend. Due to forecasts of inclement weather on Saturday, the series will now start at Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. with a doubleheader before wrapping up on Sunday with a single nine-inning game at Standard Bank Stadium at 4 p.m.
