Women's Basketball Falls At Cardinal Stritch

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Roosevelt women's basketball team's rally efforts came up just short on the road against a Cardinal Stritch team receiving Top 25 votes, as the Lakers fell 69-58 at Panella Court on Saturday afternoon.

Lindzy Cox led the Lakers (5-8, 1-5 CCAC) with 13 points. Jasmine Albert scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds and Ashley Smoldt tallied 10 points.

Kelli Schrauth led all scorers with 18 points along with a game-high 11 rebounds for the Wolves (6-6, 4-2 CCAC).

Roosevelt caused the Wolves to turn the ball over 15 points, leading to 19 points for the Lakers.

Stritch jumped out to a 9-2 lead and held off Roosevelt spurts that brought that Lakers within two during the first half.

The Lakers eventually tied the game early in the third, but Stritch went on a 15-3 run to go up by 12.

Despite a 3-for-13 fourth quarter from the field, Roosevelt was able to rally back from a 15-point deficit in the final period to get within five with 72 seconds on the clock.

But that was as close as the Green and White could get as Roosevelt couldn't score during the final minute and the Wolves put the game away at the foul line.

"We waited too long to play with the urgency that we needed from the jump ball," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said. "We hurt ourselves by missing so many opportunities around the rim."

Roosevelt heads into finals week and returns to game action next Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Goodman Center against Trinity Christian at 1 p.m.
