CHICAGO – The Roosevelt women's basketball team scored the first 10 points of its game against visiting Dominican (Ill.) and never looked back in a 69-56 win at the Goodman Center on Tuesday.
Nadia Thorman-McKey scored a career- and game-high 21 points to go with a game-best 10 rebounds for her second career double-double to pace the Lakers (7-8).
Lindzy Cox added 12 points and eight assists along with four steals and three blocks for a strong all-around performance, while nine other Lakers got into the scorebook.
Alisha Markley added 21 points to pace the Stars (6-5).
Roosevelt jumped out to the early lead with hustle and pressuring defensive strength that eventually forced 28 turnovers when the final horn sounded.
The Lakers forced Dominican to miss 13 of its first 15 shot attempts as Roosevelt built a lead into the teens before halftime before growing it to as many as 22 points in the fourth quarter.
"This was another solid all-around game from our team," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said. "I love the energy that we have been playing with.
"We want to clean up our turnovers and stay disciplined when we get tired, but we are showing so much progress," Newell contined. "We are looking forward to two more home games this week."
The Lakers host the Roosevelt Classic this Thursday, Dec. 20 and Friday, Dec. 21 at the Goodman Center. Roosevelt begins the tournament at 5 p.m. on Thursday against Lincoln (Ill.)
