CHICAGO – Despite another strong outing from senior forward Jasmine Albert, the Roosevelt women's basketball team fell to 22nd-ranked Saint Xavier 72-56 inside the Goodman Center on Wednesday.
Albert led all players with 18 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds for the Lakers (3-6, 1-3 CCAC), who also received 10 points apiece from Lindzy Cox and Nadia Thorman-McKey.
Becca Bergman added eight points, seven assists and three steals.
Gabby Kreykes led the Cougars (4-3, 3-0 CCAC) with 17 points, while Chanel Fanter had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Saint Xavier led from start to finish, as the Lakers struggled to get the ball through the cup. Roosevelt shot 33 percent (25-for-76) from the field, 31 percent (4-for-13) from the free throw line and just 13 percent (2-for-16) from three-point range.
The Lakers stayed close thanks to a defensive effort that caused 15 SXU turnovers, but Roosevelt's shooting woes could not be overcome on this night.
"It's hard to win a game like this when our shooting percentages from the three point line, the field, and the free throw line are so low," Roosevelt head coach Keisha Newell said after the game. "We saw a lot of bright spots defensively and I also thought we brought tons of energy.
"We have to put four complete quarters together to win games."
Roosevelt will host Governors State at the Goodman Center this Saturday at 1 p.m.
