CHICAGO – A defensive struggle ensued between the Roosevelt women's basketball team and a Crossroads League foe for the second consecutive day, and the Lakers couldn't reverse their fortunes as visiting Grace (Ind.) came away with a 61-54 decision in the finale of the CCAC vs. Crossroads Classic hosted inside the Lillian and Larry Goodman Center on Friday evening.
Paige Gallimore led all scorers with 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Becca Bergman tallied 10 points and Jasmine Albert had 12 rebounds for the Lakers (10-6), who lost two in a row for the first time this season.
Vironnica Drake scored 15 to lead Grace (8-7).
Roosevelt tried to claw back from a late second-half deficit after leading for most of the first three quarters, but the guests held off the Green and White as the Lakers made just three of 19 fourth-quarter shots from the floor.
Both teams shot 26 percent from the field for the game, but Grace was able to capitalize on a 32-14 advantage in trips to the free throw line. The Lancers made 10 more shots from the charity stripe than Roosevelt with more than double the attempts.
In the day's opening contest, Robert Morris Illinois rebounded from a loss to Grace yesterday by outlasting Spring Arbor (Mich.), 67-61.
Roosevelt takes a break from competition until Jan. 6 with a CCAC road contest at Calumet St. Joseph.
