DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Roosevelt baseball team outhit host St. Ambrose for the third straight game, but a six-run sixth inning for the Fighting Bees proved to be too much for the Lakers to overcome in an 8-5 loss at Modern Woodmen Park on Monday.
Charley Zeschke went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the leadoff spot, while Matt Kozlak and Alvin Perez had two hits apiece and Nick Garcia had a two-run single in the eighth for the Lakers (11-9, 2-3 CCAC).
Zeschke, Kozlak and Colten Trager drove in runs to give Roosevelt a 3-0 lead in the fifth, but the Bees (12-13, 6-2 CCAC) scored two in the bottom half of that inning and eventually took the lead with a four-hit, six-run sixth.
Garcia hit a two-run single in the eighth to close the gap to three, and Roosevelt brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth in the form of Tyler Ward with two Lakers aboard. But reliever Cooper Sant Amour induced a game-ending double play off of Ward's bat to give St. Ambrose the series sweep.
Roosevelt heads to Bourbonnais on Tuesday to take on Olivet Nazarene in CCAC twinbill action beginning at 1 p.m. Central.
