Disastrous Second Inning Dooms Baseball In Loss To Bryan (Tenn.)

EMERSON, Ga. – Some days are tough. Some innings are rough.

That described the Roosevelt baseball team's contest against Bryan on Wednesday, as a disastrous second inning undid the Lakers in an 18-6 loss to conclude the Green and White's spring trip.

Bryan (18-6) scored all 11 of its second-inning runs before Roosevelt (1-5) pitching could record an out in the frame.

Laker hurlers unfurled four wild pitches, hit six Bryan batters and issued 12 free passes during an out-of-control six-inning showing.

The Lakers had scored two in the top of the first to take an early lead, but the bottom of the second proved to be too much to overcome on this afternoon.

Veteran AJ Neufeld and newcomer Matt Esquivel each had two hits and an RBI.

Travis Siwiec, Jared Jayne and Marcus Radz combined for five innings of two-run work in relief.

Roosevelt will regroup and begin CCAC play when the Lakers take on Robert Morris this weekend. The four-game set will be played at Immaculate Conception's Plunkett Athletic Complex in Elmhurst, with RMU hosting on Saturday and Roosevelt serving as the home team on Sunday.
