SHAWNEE, Okla. - Jordan Gosztola and Danny Haze hit homers and had three-RBI days, but the Roosevelt baseball team was felled twice by unbeaten and 11th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday.
The Lakers (2-3) lost the first game 23-7 before giving the nationally-ranked Bison (22-0) all they could handle in a narrow 8-5 loss that needed the hosts to use a four-run fifth to erase the Lakers' one-run lead.
Gosztola went yard with a two-run shot in game one, while Haze bashed a three-run shot in the third inning of game two to put the Lakers ahead.
Roosevelt had erased a two-run deficit in game one with a five-run third, but the Bison scored five in their half of that same inning and scored 16 over the course of the following three frames.
The Lakers trailed 1-0 early in game two until Nathan Greene drove in Niko Morado with a tying run and Haze eventually stepped up to go yard with two aboard for the four-run third inning.
The hosts scored twice in the bottom of the third to get within one until the Bison put together the decisive four-run fifth with five hits and a pair of Roosevelt errors.
Roosevelt scored in the top of the sixth to get within two, but the hosts answered with a run in the bottom half.
The Lakers put two on with one away in the top of the seventh, but the Bison escaped unscathed to hold on for the win despite the big threat from the RU 9.
Roosevelt starts a four-game series against Bacone College on Friday.
