Santora's RBI Double Sends Softball To 3-2 Walk-Off Win Over Trinity Christian

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Kristy Santora's walk-off RBI double sent the Roosevelt softball team to a 3-2 eight-inning victory over Trinity Christian in the opener of a doubleheader at the Ballpark at Rosemont on Tuesday.

Pitcher Morgan Vogt struck out nine and allowed just one earned run for the Lakers (7-20, 4-7 CCAC).

With one away in the eighth, the score tied at 2-2 and Vogt on first after a leadoff single, Santora crushed a ball that traveled to the centerfield wall and allowed the Roosevelt ace to reach home with the decisive tally.

Trinity Christian (10-21, 4-5 CCAC) had rallied from a 2-0 deficit to even the game in the seventh. Vogt had been cruising in the circle, retiring 12 consecutive batters, before Kaleigh Velasquez reached on a dropped third strike that rolled to the backstop. That passed ball started a game-tying two-run rally, as the Trolls strung together three consecutive singles to plate a pair.

Vogt escaped further damage in the seventh, as Trinity Christian loaded the bags with two away but left them packed as the Roosevelt ace induced an inning-ending groundout to second baseman Taylor Edwards.

The Lakers' offense started strong, as Amanda Ferguson led off the bottom of the first with a single down the leftfield line. Two batters later it was Kelly Crowley's turn to take an offering from Brianna Brugioni and take it to left for a run-scoring double.

Santora then singled home Crowley in the Lakers' next at-bat for the first of two RBI for the Roosevelt rightfielder.

Defense was stout for the Lakers. Jessica Taylor made a number of strong plays at third, and Edwards extended her glove to turn what appeared to be a hit through the right side into an out to end the top of the eighth.
